Ear Training

Something I'd Like to Try

Nathan posted a few days ago about a bunch of stuff he wants to do better including doing more ear trainging. Honestly, that site is pretty awesome–they play intervals and you’re supposed to guess which one it is. I played it for a while and sucked at it. But it’s something I think I could really work [...]

10 Free Christmas Albums

for your holiday pleasure

To kick off the holidays, I’m posting a list of free Christmas albums, all of which are free or ‘pay what you want’. Most of these are courtesy of Noisetrade, which offers you the option of telling 5 friends or paying what you want for an album. With my apologies to your 5 friends you’ll be [...]

From Ars Technica’s Windows 7 Review

Here’s the money quote from Ars Technica’s review of Windows 7; I’d say this pretty mcuh sums it up: If you don’t like Windows Vista’s Start Menu, you won’t like Windows 7 much. The fish wallpaper is quite splendid.

Awesome Photos of England, CS Lewis’ House

My friend Aaron is in England right now. And he’s posting pictures to his Flickr stream of the trip, including his tour of the inside of CS Lewis house. Fortunately, there’s an RSS feed, so you can subscribe to the stream and get it in Google Reader and not have to wonder when he’s posting a new pic.  I [...]

An Open Letter to Tuscany Restaurant in Decatur, IL

Dear Tuscany, I’ve come and visited you before and always enjoyed it.  But I wanted to tell you–I came today and had the tortellini special, the one with the alfredo sauce and red peppers. And it was phenomenal. You make Pastabilities look like McDonalds and Olive Garden like Wendy’s. Thanks for having me over–I really appreciated it. Sincerely, Jake ‘I Just Blogged About [...]

Just to follow-up on my previous post about Raiders of The Lost Ark: The Adaptation, you can find it on bittorrent sites here and there. Do a bit of searching; you’re good with the google, I’m sure.

They Might Be Giants Podcast

A little while ago, I subscribed to the They Might Be Giants Podcast. It’s not quite as irregular as the Wilco Podcast, but it’s pretty bad–you never know when a new one will pop up. Recently, the podcast was a song, “Never Go to Work”. I listened to it and thought it was awesome. Jonah concurred. I [...]

Brian McLaren Interview

Today, I listened to Brian McLaren on the Nick and Josh Podcast. He was talking about his new book, which I’m reading: Everything Must Change. Here’s the quick overview: What are the world’s biggest problems? What does Jesus have to say about them? Translation: we ought to be working to eliminate poverty and injustice. As he talked, [...]

Color Generator

Here’s a handy tool: you take the main image for the website you’re building, and put it into this pallette generator, and it pulls the main colors out for you and gives you the hex codes for them all. It’s not rocket science, but it’s easier than using one of those dang little color picker thingys.
