TYP03 and Christianity

Here’s an interesting, albeit brief, interview with TYPO3 lead dev Kasper Skårhøj, where he touches on open source software as a means towards ministry. It’s interesting, but there’s not quite enough content to really dig into the issues, unfortunately. That said, TYPO3 is a pretty serious CMS product I’ve looked at the in past, but have always [...]

Remove All Span Tags from HTML Doc with Vim

Oné of the websites I manage is a mess–the code is horrific and the CMS we’re forced to use to change content keeps it that way. To edit code, I most often copy it out of the CMS and into Vim, do my edits then copy it back.  One of the worst parts is the span tags I keep finding to [...]

Jaunty Jackelope: best Ubuntu yet

Last night, I installed Jaunty Jackelope, the newest version of Ubuntu Linux. Overall, I think this is the best version of Ubuntu we’ve seen yet. There’s been talking about how fast Jaunty boots. And I can vouch for it: it’s noticably faster than even my Crunchbang install. There’s a couple bug notices that flash up when the boot starts–if those [...]

What I Can’t Write on An Evaluation

I’m filling out an evaluation for my intern right now. It’s her last day, and she’s worked really hard. The question I’m looking at asks, “What did the intern learn during her experience?” I probably can’t write: I think my intern got a good glimpse of what work in an business office environment is like, the monotony [...]

The New Ebay (from garage sale to Chinese electronics market)

My tape adapter died last week. Which meant I’ve been in serious Linux Outlaws withdrawl for a while now. I looked at buying one at Wal-Mart or Walgreens or whatever, but they’re about $10. That seemed crazy to me, so I looked on ebay. I found one with free shipping for less than $2.50. I’m sure it’s a pile [...]

High Fedelity on Love

I just watched High Fidelity. Spectacular. First, let me say, I had no idea how much at least two of my friends’ personalities were DIRECTLY taken from John Cusak’s character in this movie.  Kudos to Ken for picking up that hair-shaking, I-only-barely-care walk (which, by the way, he would do well to pick back up). Props to Mitch [...]

Make Text Disappear on Focus of a Search Field

It’s surprisingly difficult to find a straightforward answer to a rather simple question: how do I make the default text in an HTML input field disappear when the use clicks on it. What you need to do is use Javascript to replace the default text with no text. To do that, add an onfocus tag to the input field. Then [...]

Homogenity and Personality in Worship Music

This weekend, Jenn and I went to the Annual Banquet at the campus ministry at Eastern, where we went to school. There’s a lot I could talk about, but one thing that really stuck out to me was the worship music they sang: it was so Christian radio I wanted to stick a fork in my eye. This suprised me a little [...]
