Cool Font: Declaration (not free)

Now here’s a cool font: Declaration (thanks to I Love Typography for the link). Granted, it’s not $50 worth of free. But, still…it’s cool. Like Papyrus, only hot.

Fix WordPress Blogger Import Problem: "Next Parameter was bad or missing”

I recently tried to import my posts from blogger into WordPress. I used WordPress’s blogger import tool. Unfortunately, it bombed out almost immediately, giving me an error that said “The “next” parameter was bad or missing.” Here’s how I fixed it: As per the instructions here, I edited /wp-admin/import/blogger.php and removed all references to www2.blogger.com and [...]

More on Font Rendering: Mac and Windows

Here’s an interesting article about the Mac philosophy of font rendering which is pointed a lot more at the original font design and the way it renders in print (which, in turn, looks like crap on screen). The best comment on the article: “Apple’s Viewpoint: Garbage in, Garbage out Microsoft’s Viewpoint: Garbage in, (arbitrary deterministic [...]

Flock (again)

A little while ago Renaissance Man blogged about how Flock’s font rendering is better than Firefox’s (FF3 on Ubuntu). So I bit the bullet and fired up Flock on my Ubuntu laptop, which renders fonts craptastically no matter what I do. FF has always been a little better than Opera, but Flock definitely thickens things up, [...]

Don Chaffer Update

Because of the bad weather, I missed the first night of Don Chaffer. But I didn’t miss the rest. And not only did I not miss it, but I taped it for your listening pleasure. Right now, it’s in three big .wv (Wavepak) files. I have no idea about the levels. The quality seems to [...]

Seeing Waterdeep…or At Least Don

This weekend, I’m going to a retreat that Don Chaffer of Waterdeep fame is speaking and leading worship at. I’m pretty pumped and can only hope he plays some stuff off their new album Heart Attack Time Machine. Like my friend Brian, the more I listen to that album the more awesome I decide it is. [...]

Tales of Transmorgification

A while ago, Jonah got a book from the library about a boy who ate so many hamburgers that he turned into one. A few weeks later, he got a book about a boy who ate so many bananas that he turned into a monkey. And that was it–Jonah was hooked on transforming. Which, of course, [...]

Download Wilco Residency All Five Nights

Wilco just finished up a 5-night gig in Chicago, where they played through their entire catalog. The brilliant thing is that Wilco thinks you should share in what they do live, so you can download the whole thing legally via BitTorrent, assuming ComCast isn’t hosing you. Here’s some links that don’t require passwords (all from bt.etree.com): [...]

FireFox Web Development: Part 2 — Firebug

As I was looking around at Firefox extensions yesterday for web development, I stumbled onto Firebug. I had complained yesterday that there was no way to edit html and apply the changes in real time in FireFox like you could in Opera. Firebug lets you do just that. And it kicks Opera’s capabilities in the groin, [...]
