N.T. Wright Remixed — Good Stuff

N.T. Wright is a challenging dude. I downloaded this Q&A with N.T. Wright at Empire Remixed in Toronto in 2006. It’s phenomenal. To be completely honest, I haven’t been reminded in a while of just how great the challenge of following Jesus is. But this did it. The audio opens with him singing ‘Blowing in The Wind,’ [...]

Peter Bjorn and John Rule

I got a Peter Bjorn and John cd out of the library, Writer’s Block, kind on a whim. I’d heard of them before, but didn’t really know anything about them. It’s phenomenal, really cool indie rock the way it’s supposed to be–a bit weird but very listenable at the same time. More unique and creative than weird.

Discussion on the Kingdom of God

A few days ago, my brother (who just became the father of twins!) emailed me in response to my (initially negative) review of McLaren’s Everything Must Change. He took issue with McLaren’s kingdom theology, saying, “McLaren seems to define the Kingdom of God according to his own definition, which I don’t fully understand, but which [...]

More on Importing to WordPress

For reasons unknown, my transistion to WordPress seems to have stalled. Importing was taking a long time–each time I’d hit the ‘import’ button, it’d grab about 150 of my 1200 entries in about 2 minutes and then I’d have to hit it again.. So I’ve been hitting it, on and off, for about two days [...]

From Opera to FireFox: Speed Dial

In version 9, Opera released a new feature: Speed Dial. This ruled and switched the way I used Opera. I used to bookmark sites and add a nickname. Then I would hit ctrl+F2 and begin typing the nickname in the dialog. As soon as Opera found a unique match, it would open the bookmark. That’s a [...]

My First Open Source Contribution

I just made my first open source contribution. At work, I’m using Open Flash Charts to do some internal reporting (since it’s all internal reports, I can’t give you a link, unfortunately). One of the things I needed to do was to generate trendlines, which are linear regressions. However, the php function I found to [...]

And Now for Some Bad Advice about Typography

There’s plenty of good information about typography out there. Unfortunately, this list of 10 tragic typefaces is quite possibly the least informative article of all time. Let me sum it up for you: If you use a font that anybody else used, you suck. If the font is a default anywhere and you use it, you suck. I [...]

Useful Typographic Information

Remember I said there was good information about typography on the web? I wasn’t lying. Here’s some well-explained, clearly illustrated tips on better typography, suggestions about how to adjust your leading (line spacing) based on paragraph width, what to do when you inverse your colors, etc. Good stuff here.
