Inkscape 0.46

Yesterday, I tried out the new version of Inkscape: 0.46. It’s not officially released yet; it’s still in beta. It’s got a lot of cool new features, include a 3D tool, a paintbucket and what they call a ‘node scuplting tool’, which basically let’s you push beizer path nodes around. The killer feature I was looking [...]

Print Sharing on Linux

Last night, I moved my printer from the desktop computer to my home server so we could print without the desktop being on. The server is running Ubuntu 6.10…or is it 6.06? Whatever the last LTS version was. In any case, sharing printers on that version is suprisingly difficult. You have to edit /etc/samba/smb.conf. Don’t ask [...]

Date Your Web Page

I remember a few years ago, reading a w3c recommendation that you date your page. This was before blogs were big. The only people dating their webpages back then were the same people who refused to format their pages. They’d date their white, boring looking pages at the bottom with a date in italics, most [...]

N.T. Wright and Anne Rice

Ok, one more podcast link before I go to bed: Here’s N.T. Wright AND Anne Rice together. The title is “Writing Our Way to God.” But the description says, “Together these two extraordinary writers will explore the mystery of the identity of God and our interconnectedness with Creation. This Forum brings together two contemporary writers who [...]

Nick and Josh Archives — Good Stuff

Wow. Here’s the Nick and Josh Podcast archives. It looks to me like there’s a lot of good stuff in there. Here’s some highlights (I’m not linking to each one, just follow the previous link and search–you’re a big boy): Doug Pagitt Tony Jones Brian McLaren (twice) Derek Webb Plenty of Corporate Responsiblity Bishop John Shelby [...]

Corporate Responsibility Podcasts

I mentioned that Brian McLaren was interviewed on the Nick and Josh podcast in m previous post. What I may not have mentioned was that Nick and Josh have done a series of podcasts about corporate responsibility. I’m not entirely sure what they mean by that, or if the podcasts are any good. That said, I’m definately [...]

Brian McLaren Interview

Today, I listened to Brian McLaren on the Nick and Josh Podcast. He was talking about his new book, which I’m reading: Everything Must Change. Here’s the quick overview: What are the world’s biggest problems? What does Jesus have to say about them? Translation: we ought to be working to eliminate poverty and injustice. As [...]

Barack Obama Interviewed by Christianity Today

Here’s an interview of Barak Obama by Christianity Today. I’ve ripped on Obama before because I’ve felt like he’s just tried to use evangelical language as a political tool. But, I’ve got to say, he does a really good job in this interview. His response to the abortion question? I don’t know anybody who is pro-abortion. I [...]

Paying Artists

Here’s an interesting page about ways that (musical) artists can get paid without fighting file-sharing. The most interesting part of article, in light of my previous post about CCLI, is that one of the suggestions they make is basically what CCLI does: simplfy the licensing process and collect money for it (see the section on [...]

The Postmodern Church and Copyright

Today, I was on the CCLI homepage. These are the guys who enforce copyright for worship music. Or they provide a way for you not to break copyright laws at your church? I’m not sure how it all works, legally. In any case, they’ve got a rotating flash banner on the homepage that has pictures of [...]
