Rockboy

Ok, this is beyond cool. There’s an open source firmware replacement for my new mp3 called Rockbox. It supports a lot of things the native firmware won’t support, including (and these are the biggys) gapless playback, FLAC support, and on-the-fly playlist creation. It also support plugins. One of the plugins (this is the really cool [...]

Top 10 Ways to Destroy Earth

This is awesome: a Top List of ways to destroy the earth. From the introduction: “This is not a guide for those whose aim is merely to wipe out humanity.…If total human genocide is your ultimate goal, you are reading the wrong document. There are far more efficient ways of doing this, many which are [...]

Burrrn — Freeware Rules

I know how it happened. You bought a new computer. You loved it. You loved everything about it. Ok, maybe not everything. You could do without all the ridiculous stuff that came installed with that computer. Dell Jukebox? Acer Arcade? Norton Antivirus Trial Edition? You don’t need that stuff. And by need, I mean “want.” So [...]

Suffering

I’ve been thinking about suffering some recently, especially in light of two things: 1. We’ve been going through Thessalonians (both of them) on Tuesday nights. A couple weeks ago, Jeff talked about how suffering is an integral part of the Christian experience, that, for the most part, we’ve sanitized. That’s pretty challenging to me, mostly [...]

Funny Cartoons about Linguists

The Language Log strikes again. This time it’s some funny cartoons. STRONG language warning, though (part of the irony/humor as far as I’m concerned is that the LL has been talking a lot about profanity recently, and they’re not afraid to print the words they’re talking about. Shoot, the fact that people shouldn’t be is [...]

Hook Up A Tin Can to Your Computer

Mike and I were talking today about getting better wi-fi coverage in the sanctuary, so I started looking for ways to improve our coverage. This site recommends using a tin can as an antenna. The problem for us is that it’s a reception antenna. I suppose it might work, though.

I’m Not Suprised You’re Let Down

The more I read Colossians Three Sixteen, the more I like it. The tag line of the blog is “the collision of theology, culture and music,” which might make you think it’s your typical liberal/emergent/po-mo blog (ie. this one). But it’s not. It’s considerably more conservative. But not wack-o so. It’s the kind of blog [...]

Catholics, Unitarians, etc

I guess a day or two ago, Steven Colbert recited the entire Nicean Creed on his show. If you’re on broadband, you should go, read the blog post that linked to the video (it’s got some good info on Colbert’s religious views), and watch the video. It seems like the kind pointed, yet ridiculous talk about religion [...]

Barak Obama and Christianity

I caught just a little bit of Barak Obama on NPR the other day, talking about how Democrats need to reach out to Christian voters. Now, I’m all about that idea–seems to me Christians have let the Religious Right tell them how to vote for a long time, now, and it’d be great to get [...]
